The management of soil from the biological standpoint involves a progression of steps that allow for the formation of diverse and numerous populations of soil microorganisms.

  1. Establishment of base lines describing soil both Chemically and Biologically.
  2. Determining the needs of the crop or landscape.
  3. Establishing a foundation of Bacterial Biomass.
  4. Establishing an active and diverse Fungal Biomass.
  5. Elevate the Soil Foodweb
    a. Increae the Protozoa population
    b. Increase the beneficial Nematode population
    c. Promote Mycorrhizal colonization of roots.
  6. Monitor the soil both chemically and biologically.

In order to manage the ecology of soil, one must have the ability to measure it!  In recent years, technology has come forward that creates tremendous opportunities for growers and managers to monitor the biological components of their soils.

Highlands Soil and Water offers its clients soil testing services, interpretations and recommendations. We utilize the leading laboratories in soil microbiology and soil ecology. (Soilfoodweb, Inc. , BBC Laboratories, Inc., etc.)
