Commercial Manufacture of Compost Tea Highlands Soil & Water is a commercial manufacturer of biological products for application within the agricultural and horticultural industries. The only sources of diverse and numerous species of beneficial soil fungi for soil application are quality compost or quality compost tea. Because of the difficulty associated with finding and applying a compost of consistent quality, we have chosen to provide our customers with quality composts teas designed to meet our customers needs. Compost Tea The source and quality of the compost used in the production of compost tea is extremely important. It should provide a diversity of beneficial soil microorganisms, nutrients and be free of human pathogens. The quality of compost tea can be enhanced and manipulated by the addition of various ingredients during the brewing cycle. To insure quality compost tea on a commercial basis, it is necessary to utilize proven equipment and methods. Highlands Soil and Water utilizes the highest quality of materials and equipment in the manufacture of its products. Our teas are monitored for quality assurance. General Application Guidleines Compost tea can be injected into sprinkler or micro jet irrigation systems at the recommended rates. Injection should occur after filtration. Do not apply the product through drip irrigation systems. Application of an appropriate microbial food source should accompany each application of compost tea. Use of a natural soil wetting agent is recommended with each application of compost tea. If applied with ground spray equipment, a number 40 m spray nozzle should be used. Compost tea can be UV sensitive and should be applied in the morning or evening hours of the day. Compost Alternative HIGHLANDS AME can be utilized as a convenient and cost savings alternative to traditional compost applications. Compost Tea contains soluble nutrients and an active diverse population of bacteria, fungi and protozoa. Apply at 7 to 15 gallons per acre to the soil using sprinkler irrigation, as a soil drench or directed spray. Compost Inocula HIGHLANDS AME can be applied to compost piles during the composting process to introduce diverse populations of microorganisms. Dilute with water 10:1 and apply to compost piles prior to turning. Post Fumigation HIGHLANDS AME can be used to inoculate fumigated soil to restore a diverse population of soil microorganisms. Apply 7 gallons per acre to the soil as a drench or directed spray post fumigation when re-entry is allowed. Whenever possible cover the applied material with soil. Vineyards/Orchards Apply HIGHLANDS AME to the soil as a directed spray or a drench, at the rate of 7 gallons per acre. Whenever possible cover the applied material with soil. HIGHLANDS AME is recommended for application in the spring, early summer and fall for existing vineyards. For new planting, apply at planting time and in the fall. Apply maintenance applications of 2 gallons per acre during the season as a directed spray to the soil, in the irrigation water (see guidelines), or as a foliar spray. Vegetables Apply HIGHLANDS AME to the soil as a directed spray or as a soil drench pre plant or in the pre irrigation water at a rate of 7 gallons per acre. Maintenance applications of Highlands AME are recommended at repeated intervals of every two to three weeks dependent upon soil types, use of pesticides and fertilizers and irrigation schedules. Turf Grass Apply HIGHLANDS AME to the turf as a directed spray, a drench or in the irrigation water (see guidelines) at an initial rate of 20 ounces per 1,000 sq feet. Whenever possible, de-thatch turf and aerate soil prior to application. Apply Highlands AME at repeated intervals of two weeks throughout the growing season at a rate of 10 to 20 ounces per 1,000 sq feet. Frequency and rate of application will be dependent upon soil types and the use of fertilizers and pesticides. Flowers Apply HIGHLANDS AME to the soil as a directed spray or a drench, at an initial rate of 7 gallons per acre or 20 ounces per 1,000 sq feet. HIGHLANDS AME can be applied as a foliar spray throughout the growing season at a rate of 2.5 gallons per acre or 10 ounces per 1,000 sq feet. HIGHLANDS AME is recommended for application in the spring, early summer and fall for existing beds. For new planting, apply at planting time and in the fall.
